Remote Learning

Dear Parents and Carers,

Re: Educare and Remote Learning update

Firstly, we would like to thank all families for their support over the past week. As a school, we have tried to react as quickly as possible to the change of direction as set out by the Department for Education and to adjust our teaching practice and provision accordingly, whilst keeping children and staff as safe as possible. We remain mindful that current plans may be subject to change and we will do our best to deliver education of the highest standard, whilst also ensuring our children’s well-being. Today, we have sent out a questionnaire to all parents inviting your feedback on your experience of our provision so far. We would be very grateful to receive your replies.

Educare:

  • Educare hours: 9.00am – 3.20pm
  • Uniform to be worn by all students
  • Children arrive at their usual gates (EYFS gate 3, Y1-3 Gate 1, Y4-6 Gate 2)
  • Staffing for each Educare bubble will comprise a teacher and support staff
  • Please bring packed lunch as usual, free school meals will be provided to those children eligible
  • Children will be with their year groups

Remote Learning:

Those children not attending Educare will be expected to participate in our comprehensive online learning package. Our full remote learning package took effect last Wednesday, details of which you can find below. An instructional video explaining how to use MS Teams is available on our YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwOp5UI8wIU69g0R2P9ZexQ) and our school website (http://www.stuartroad.org/website). Please note that the example email address used in the video is for Goosewell and you will need to use your individual Stuart Road email address at sign in.

We are currently running a morning and afternoon class registration and online support through the day on TEAMS. During registration, teachers will outline the work for the day ahead and offer the class the chance to ask any general questions or offer feedback on their learning experience. Please do not hesitate to access this as there is always a member of teaching staff on hand to support your child’s remote learning.

Foundation

Your child’s curriculum will be delivered via MS Teams. A programme of tasks, including name writing practice, number precision, reading time and number time activities, will go live on MS Teams as ASSIGNMENTS daily at 8am (with the exception of Read Write Inc.). All daily work is submitted on the day it is set and can be in the form of a photo/ video of your child’s work which is then sent back via MS Teams. Links to Read Write Inc. video lessons on YouTube will be posted as assignments to MS Teams (Read Write Inc. videos are scheduled at 9:30am and expire after 24 hours).

Weekly Virtual Assemblies via MS Teams are on Mondays at 1:15pm and outline work for the week and a story. Additional weekly maths, writing and creative activities based on our theme of Three Little Pigs/Winter will also be set.

Key Stage 1 Expectations

All KS1 pupils (years 1-2) are to meet their class teacher for a live registration using MS Teams every morning at 9.00am. Morning registration will give an overview of the day ahead and will be a chance to answer any questions about the learning. Children are to meet their teacher for a live afternoon meeting using MS Teams at 3.00pm and this will be a chance to catch up at the end of the day and answer any questions.

We would like families to post their child’s work in the assignments area so that your child’s teacher can give feedback. This learning is to be photographed and uploaded to your child’s class MS Team platform every day.

Children who are in a RWI phonics group will need to continue to access their phonics learning via YouTube links posted in MS Teams assignments at 12.00 every. If you are unsure which phonic group your child is in, please contact your child’s teacher via Teams. Weekly spellings and any topic homework will be posted on MS Teams as well.

Key Stage 2 Expectations

All KS2 pupils (years 3-6) are to meet their class teacher for a live registration using MS Teams every morning at 9.00am. Morning registration will give an overview of the day ahead and will be a chance to answer any questions about the learning. Children are to meet their teacher for a live afternoon meeting using MS Teams at 3.00pm and this will be a chance to catch up at the end of the day and answer any questions.

Children will have daily maths, reading and writing lessons posted as assignments on MS Teams and all completed learning is to be photographed and uploaded to the assignments area for any required feedback from the class teacher. They will also have 1 topic lesson to complete each week and submit to their class teacher.

Children will have their RWI Spelling and White Rose Maths books available to them, as well as a red Remote Learning exercise book and their class teacher will set specific work to be completed in these books on a daily basis.

I will take this opportunity to set out our rational for using recorded lessons as opposed to live lessons. Recorded lessons allow families to access learning at a time that suits individual families. We are conscious that there may be limited devices, limited space at home as well as more than one child trying to access lessons at the same time. This is further combined with teachers needing to be available to work in Educare. Again, however, this model may evolve and change overtime.
