The legacy of the 2012 London Olympics was to raise the profile of PE and invest in the delivery of high quality PE in schools. Annually we receive Primary PE and Sports Premium Funding to support and enhance the delivery of PE in our school. Research has shown how a healthy lifestyle helps good general development... 'a healthy mind in a healthy body.'
We continue to invest in the physical and mental well-being of our children and have identified a need for a scheme of work to be put in place which allows for the continued delivery of high quality PE sessions in the form of REAL PE. This scheme comes additional training for staff in it's delivery in school. REAL PE is highly inclusive and is designed to engage children of all abilities. The COVID-19 pandemic, has meant that children have been lacking in opportunities to engage in physical activity which has been proven to boost mental well-being as well as physical fitness.
There is an intention in the coming year to reinstate after school PE clubs to allow for additional opportunities as well as participating in competitive sports again through the Plymouth Schools Sports Partnership programme.
We have traditionally sent Year 5 children on annual swimming sessions and have been unable to do this due to the pandemic for the past year- to make up for this we will be sending Years 5 and 6 this year for lessons at Plymouth Life Centre.
We also have links with the College of St. Mark and St. John (Marjons), where we have the opportunity to use their facilities and additional coaching from their student PE teachers- this will be open to Years 4, 5 and 6 in the coming year.
Attached are documents featuring reports of how this money was spent.
