Welcome to the Governors' section!
Welcome to Stuart Road School
People with many different skills are members of our Governing Body and they bring these skills to their work in supporting the pupils and staff of the school. There are 3 categories of Governors – Parent Governors, Community Governors and Local Authority Appointed Governors.
Our job is to ensure that the Headteacher and staff deliver the Curriculum and run the school in line with Government legislation, guidelines and procedures. We have a large number of policies which are reviewed on a regular basis to ensure that we are as up to date as we possibly can be.
Governors also attend regular training to ensure that they are familiar with new legislation and how it affects their individual school. Without this training which is provided by the Local Authority we would be unable to efficiently do our job.
As a Full Governing Body we meet once in each of the 6 terms of the school year as do our Finance and Personnel Committee and our Curriculum and Premises Committee.
Each Governor has a link with a subject and a class in the school and we do try to visit school as often as is possible to speak with the staff delivering the subject and with the children in the classes to which we are attached. School lunch with the children is always a very rewarding experience.
You will often see us at Assemblies when we present the Merit Awards to the children in each year group. It is always a pleasure to do this and to attend the performances by the children.
Anyone can become a School Governor and if you are interested you should contact the Governor Development Team at Windsor House – Plymouth 307480 – for further information. You do not need any qualifications, or social standing that is important. You should be prepared to work hard for the good of the school to which you would be attached and more importantly for the wellbeing of the pupils in that school.
